A study of the literature on Pelican crossings.

Abstract

The potential for Australian use of the Pelican Crossing, is reviewed. The effect of installing similar crossings in Perth, Western Australia is discussed. The crossings are studied in terms of their development, relative safety effect on pedestrian and vehicle flow, influence on road user behaviour and suitability for elderly pedestrians and children. Proposed alterations to the method of operation of the crossings are reviewed.
