Abstract

A review is given of all pedestrian fatality reports (286) in the Medical Examiner's Office of Wayne County, during 2 years. From these reports information is obtained on the age of pedestrian accident victims, pedestrian actions prior to fatal accidents, road, weather and lighting conditions of fatal accidents; age of drivers involved in pedestrian fatalities; the hour, day and month of pedestrian accidents, alcohol involvement, the interval between accident and death, locations of fatal injuries in pedestrians. An appendix contains 58 capsule case descriptions indicating each accident situation, vehicle type, speed, and the fatal injuries of pedestrians.
