Abstract

Parking Guidance Information (PGI) System is one of the advanced systems in ITS. This system can provide information about parking location, parking availability, waiting time, and so on. In Japan PGI system was installed in many cities to solve parking problems. However, there are many ways or methods to provide information depending on the system. In terms of drivers' personal characteristics, drivers were non-homogeneous with respect to information needs. Therefore, it is important to identify what type of information drivers need in PGI system. This paper is intended to identify the characteristics and the information needs of drivers by conducting a survey at Shinjuku in Tokyo. The result will be a proposal for improving PGI system in the future.
