Abstract

The cause and measurement of road noise are considered and the relationship with vehicle body vibration discussed. Vibration transmission is analysed using mathematical modelling techniques, and methods of performing the necessary calculations are indicated. The dynamic properties of stationary and rolling tyres are investigated using the input mobility method to provide a valid tyre model within the road noise frequency range. Similarly, properties of suspension components are measured and appropriate models constructed.
