Abstract

Seatbelts were installed in 86,1% of all 1962-63 Wisconsin cars, in 22.7 % of the 1962-63 out-of-state- cars and in 12-14 % of all 1958-61 cars. Seatbelts were used by a higher percentage of occupants in 1962-63 Wisconsin cars ( 25.8 %) than by occupants in the other categories. 96 % of the available seat belts were in the driver and right front seats. About of the occupants in these seats had belts; about 2 % of the occupants in other seats had belts. Age of occupant did not appear to be associated with seat belt use.
