Abstract

In the fields of wireless communications and earth observation, development of stratospheric platforms is gaining momentum in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. This paper outlines the background and characteristics of the development of stratospheric platforms, and examines their use for locating the position of vehicles in particular. Vehicle-locating systems are of utmost importance for cruise assist systems and automated control beyond the navigation level.
