Abstract

This article is an introduction to the following papers about managing traffic behaviour. The traffic problem can be considered on three levels: for the micro-level the road user, for the macro-level a number of important social developments, which are partly autonomous and difficult to manage. Between these levels is the meso-level of cooperative actors, such as local authorities, individual companies, insurers, and car factories, which can also influence traffic behaviour. The sociological traffic engineeringis mostly aimed at the microlevel. With new technologies it is possible to describe the traffic safety as a problem from the point of view of the management.
