Abstract

It is stated that the automobile is merely a unit witch must operate within a complex highway transportation system. In order for the system to operate efficiently-and produce a minimum of accidents-it must be thoroughly and thoughtfully regulated, from the total number of vehicles in relation to the total number of miles of roads to the basic design of each vehicle in relation to that of the highway. A historical review of the design of the automobile is presented.
