Abstract

This paper describes an integrated rational approach to pavement preservation based on: 1) evaluation of the condition of the network, 2) the statistical analysis of all available data, 3) the interpretation of the results, 4) the identification of the mechanisms of deterioration, 5) the modelling and the simulation of the evolution of the condition of each pavement section. The Cause Oriented Deterioration Evolution (CODE) system consists of a rational multi-criteria network classification procedure that generates sub-networks regrouping pavements with similar static properties and characteristics that affect deterioration, a consequent mechanism of deterioration diagnosis procedure and a simple performance modelling procedure.
