Abstract

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Panel on Bridge System Preservation and Maintenance, which was composed of 10 members representing AASHTO, FHWA, state departments of transportation, the National Association of County Engineers, and academia, traveled to the African and European continents and met with highway agency representatives as well as bridge management and inspection technology practitioners and researchers. The U.S. panel reviewed and documented methods of bridge preservation and management.
