Abstract

Based on a model approach of the public transportation process separating the transport system (with the traveller and the travel plan in focus) and the traffic system (the flow of vehicles in a network following timetables in focus) a public transport information centre was developed in Gothenburg. The tasks of (transport system) information centre operators are very complex and several support systems for their work have been proposed. In the GoTiC Research framework, the design of a support system for generation of messages about disturbances has been evaluated. The competence and training needs of operators are addressed and the strategies used by the operators are identified. The importance of a "library" function is noted as the time needed for message generation is found to be too long. Ideas of new support systems to increase the speed of the operators are proposed.
