Abstract

The goal of SUPREME (SUmmary and Publication of Best Practices in Road Safety in the EU-MEmber States plus Switzerland and Norway) was to collect, analyse, summarise and publish best practices in road safety in the Member States of the European Union, as well as in Switzerland and Norway. This document summarizes all road safety measures that have been nominated for further assessment in the frame of SUPREME. Notations have been made the SUPREME board of Country experts considering to the eight criteria for best practice. Nominations were also made by representatives of European and international organisations within the supranational data collection. Measures, which later have qualified as best, promising or good practices either for application at the country level or at the European level are highlighted. The project was commissioned by DG TREN of the European Commission. It started in December 2005 and finished in June 2007. A total of 31 national and international road safety organisations were involved. More information about the project and its result can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/transport/supreme/index_en.htm (Author/publisher)
