Abstract

The goal of SUPREME (SUmmary and Publication of Best Practices in Road Safety in the EU-MEmber States plus Switzerland and Norway) was to collect, analyse, summarise and publish best practices in road safety in the Member States of the European Union, as well as in Switzerland and Norway. Infrastructure can be defined as the basic facilities, services and installations needed for the functioning of a community or society. The term has diverse meanings in different fields, but is perhaps most widely understood to refer to roads, and sewers. These various elements may collectively be termed civil infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, or simply public works, although they may be developed and operated as private-sector or government enterprises. In this report infrastructure is defined as the basic facilities, services and installations needed for the functioning of transport on roads, highways and streets. More information about the project and its result can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/transport/supreme/index_en.htm. (Author/publisher)
