Abstract

Road surfaces and road markings convey vital for road safety visual information by reflection. Their most important property in vehicle headlight illumination is the retroreflection. The quantity used for the assessment of this property- the specific luminance SL- and its dependence on the illumination and observation geometry are described. The parameter SL' related to an adapted standard geometry is devised.
