Abstract

The aim of this study is to choose the effectivity of geotextiles in prolonging the longevity of new surface treatment on existing pavement, cracked and seriously deformed. According to the deflections measured with the Benkelman beam, the bearing capacity of this section was sufficient for the medium-light traffic load, but the predicted traffic was a heavy one. Nevertheless, the strengthening layer was not applied, only the profile course of average thickness 4 cm was laid,to make faster the possible reflecting cracking and at the same time, to obtain the quicker estimation of positive or negative influence of geotextiles. The following materials were applied: Polish 100% polypropylene, polypropylene, nonwoven geotextiles, asphalt emulsion modified with polymer/stablished tar 300/500, dolomite chippings. Special attention in the laboratory tests was paid to the active adhesion of binders to the stone surface and on the geotextile. The geotextile was laid on pilot sections by hand, with laps 150-200 mm. Other works were performed mechanically. Observations carried out during the last autumn and winter showed good conditions of these sections.
