The results of a survey of the current level of road safety planning and activity within local government areas of NSW are presented. Three methods of data collection were used: a mailed questionnaire to 160 Councils, face-to-face interviews for 17 urban Councils and telephone interviews for 10 rural Councils. Data was received from 133 (75,1%) Councils in total. This report outlines the aims of the study and describes the methods used for preparation and administration of the mail and face-to-face and telephone interviews. The results of each component of the survey are discussed and general conclusions are made about the survey and local government road safety planning and acitvities.
