Abstract

The traffic education of children does not start until the children are about 6 or 7 years old and start attending primary school. The introduction of the child to the traffic environment is therefore a matter for the parents. Since the parents are made responsible for traffic education, their opinions about the traffic participation of their child and their educational efforts will to a large extent determine the children's exposure to traffic and their knowledge and ability to cope with the traffic. The present study investigates the parents' opinions about the traffic participation of their children, their traffic educational efforts in terms of the methods and topics they emphasize, their opinions about traffic education and their opinions about other countermeasures.
