Abstract

A survey of crosswalks in eight Canadian cities is presented. Special crosswalks are crosswalks with some extra protection in the form of overhead signs and lighting, pavement markings, parking prohibitions, and in some cases special by-laws. The purpose of the survey is to determine the effectiveness of these crosswalks, determine which of the different types is the best design, and indentify areas for future research.
