A survey of the use of flashing lights in aviation.

Abstract

Applications of flashing lights and the characteristics of flashing aviation lights are summarized. In aviation the primary purpose in the use of flashing lights has been and is conspicuity and identification. Except for the high intensity beacons, economy of power has been a secondary consideration.
