Abstract

The aims of this paper are to identify international best practice in providing alternatives to the private car for access to medium special events (typically less than 100,000 visitors). The paper discusses local and international case studies reviewed, and provides details of the most effective sustainable transport tools and techniques available to planners, such as pedestrian facilities, cyclist facilities, public transport, taxis, ride sharing, trip planners, car park management, access plans and promotion channels.
