Abstract

This paper describes a mathematical model for vehicle off tracking which includes the effects of tyre mechanics. The model has been used to predict results from full-scale tests on five semitrailers. The effects of a wide range of tyre operating conditions has been explored with the model, and it has been concluded that models which neglect tyre mechanics could be in error for some vehicles and under certain conditions. Discussions and author's closure are included.
