Abstract

The apparatus, known as the swing away mode of helmet testing, consists of a helmeted headform spigot-mounted on an arc which pivots about a horizontal axis. A known mass is dropped in guided fall on to the headform, which is suspended in the path of the striker, and the deceleration time trace of the striker is recorded, thereby providing a force time history of the impact.
