This article describes the SWOVISI Information System developed by the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research. This system calculates the effects upon road safety of changes in the infrastructure and of modifications in travel behaviour, modal split, and traffic flows. Forecasts can be made either for a specific road, or for a specific area. The system has been shown to be useful and will help the Transport Regions make their Regional Road and Transport Plans (Regionaal Verkeers- en Vervoersplan) for meeting the accident rate targets set out in the Second Transport Structure Plan (SW-II).
