Abstract

This synthesis is published in two volumes. Each of the 17 safety research subject areas is presented as an individual chapter. Subject areas included in Volume 1 are: roadway cross section and alignment; pavement surfaces; roadside features; access control and driveways; intersections; interchanges; one-way streets and reversible lanes; priority for high occupancy vehicles; and on street parking. Volume 2 subject areas include: construction and maintenance zones; adverse environmental operations; roadway lighting; railroad-highway grade crossings; commercial vehicles; bicycle ways; pedestrian ways; and speed zoning and control. An overall 17-chapter subject index is included in both volumes of the synthesis for finding specific areas of interest.
