Abstract

For the development of a public transport system in an urban area the quality of the supply for public transport is influenced by the following design variables: the number of stops, the network density, the number of transport lines available, and the frequency of public transport. Within a certain budget in the shape of the number of vehicles per square kilometer, different elements of quality show contradicting requirements for the design. With the aid of a special mathematical model the quality of all kinds of network concepts can be determined, depending on the environmental structure and the use of vehicles.
