Abstract

This paper describes the SOCRATES (System Of Cellular RAdio for Traffic Efficiency and Safety) services which are being introduced and implemented within the RHAPIT (RHein/Main Area Project for Integrated Traffic Management) project. Dynamic route guidance including driver information will be provided to a test fleet which will operate in a test area in the Land of Hessen, Germany. Furthermore, P+R and Public Transport information is offered to drivers prior and during the ride towards the Frankfurt area. Also, a fleet management application including automatic vehicle monitoring will be demonstrated. The core for providing the SOCRATES services is the SOCRATES Information Centre which has been set up for the field trial. It is closely linked to the traffic control centre at Russelsheim which provides on-line a comprehensive traffic data base. (A)
