Abstract

The report describes a new procedure for the reporting and recording of information concerning road traffic accidents. The system are recommended has been developed so as to keep to a reasonable limit the work of the garda investigating officer and at the some time to collect all useful information. It has been designed in such a manner as to enable use to be made of modern data processing and analysis techniques. This is considerable importance as, without such aids, it would be practical if not impossible to derive maximum benefit from the system, in the sense of providing information which can be used to reduce and prevent accidents on the roads. The report describes the purpose of traffic accident records, the present system of reporting and recording accident information and it gives a detailed description of the various stages in the new system.
