Abstract

The design and development of motor vehicle occupant protection utilizing a systems approach appears feasible. The use of a kneebar and the seat cushion for principal energy input, of an extended dashboard for restraint of the upper thigh, of the dashboard for impact protection of the chest and shoulders, and of a widened, more sloping windshield for head impacts and restraint are within present engineering and design capabilities.
