Abstract

This paper starts with a brief introduction to the road safety audit (RSA) concept, and highlights applications tailored for local road agencies. The RSA is more appropriately termed RSA Review (RSAR) when used for applications on existing roads. The primary benefit for smaller local governments is that the RSAR approach is very practical and affords the potential to assist local agencies in addressing safety needs. The paper also presents RSAR projects where tailored checklists were developed. The projects also provided the opportunity to demonstrate the value of the proposed process to enhance local road safety.
