Abstract

Literature on pedestrian traffic is reviewed. Sections are provided on the urban environment as it affects pedestrians, and on the demand for and provision of pedestrian facilities, especially in urban areas. Pedestrian precincts, and adequate footpaths are especially mentioned. Pedestrian movement patterns in urban areas are also reviewed, as are the design and evaluation of pedestrian facilities.
