Abstract

Kagoshima District, located in the southern part of Japan, often experiences heavy rain. Maintaining adequate road traffic functions despite severe natural disasters are critically important in this region. Kyushu Regional Construction Bureau of the Ministry of Construction has been actively addressing this issue and introduced an information provision system to assist road accident prevention tasks. This paper discusses an approach to build a system that will provide the information prior to enforcing preventive traffic restriction measures (hereinafter referred to as provision system) against the most probable damage caused by heavy rain. The study of the system construction and the effect of information provision is conducted with regard to the change in driving behaviour after the information from the system is received. (A*)
