Abstract

Floating car data (FCD) vehicles are viewed as the most promising way of gaining traffic information. However, the desired success has not yet been seen, as too few devices were available. The following article describes a new line of approach in collecting traffic information by FCD which is known as Traffic Dialog System (TDS). It combines a new technical environment with the appropriate business model. The aim is to reduce both cost of communication for the service provider and of the equipment in the car. Furthermore TDS will improve the quality of the incident detection, will generate patterns over time and will deliver travelling time information for the entire trip.
