Abstract

A vehicle traveling along anything other than a perfectly flat and horizontal road surface will, due to excitation of its suspension, apply dynamic wheel loads to the road which vary about its static wheel loads. The report describes a technique for measuring dynamic wheel loads using vehicle-mounted instrumentation. The vehicle's axle is instrumented with strain gauges and accelerometers and their outputs are combined to provide a measure of dynamic wheel load.
