Abstract

Attention is drawn to the paucity of investigations into accident causation and the complexity of the problem is discussed. A table shows the relative contribution to accidents of a number of caused factors. Causal factors are classified and an example is given of a method that is based on data from department statistics, police records, vehicle examiners reports. The choice for criteria for judging the performance of the variables is discussed.
