Abstract

Occupancy of the travelled way by maintenance crews and equipment is often extremely hazardous to both maintenance personnel and the travelling public. The objective of this study was to develop procedures for improving the safety and efficiency of maintenance operations by identifying methods of reducing the time of roadway occupancy by maintenance crews. In many instances the need for extensive traffic control of the area is the most expensive part of the maintenance activity.
