Abstract

Traffic calming initiatives in Denmark are described. A road classification hierarchy is considered a fundamental part of road planning and road safety. Traffic restraint devices used to reduce accident rates include pre-warnings, gateway treatments, humps, raised areas, narrowings and roundabouts. A speed management project at Gladsaxe, Copenhagen reduced average speeds by up to 32%, from 53 to 36km/h. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123863.
