Abstract

New ergonomic needs in maritime operations are being brought about by the tendency towards increasing automation. Direct control of engines and rudder from the bridge promises improved ship-control, provided that the operator can really exploit the technical improvements. In order to make such direct control most efficient, all instruments must be maximally legible and the controls must be conveniently situated.
