Abstract

This paper provides a brief review of prospects for reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through changes in fuels and vehicles. Every prospect is uncertain, although some offer more promise than others. Progress towards sustainable transportation, which above all requires reductions in fossil fuel use, should not rely solely on hopes for effective applications of technology. Changes in transport activity are essential. Technological improvements may help to ease the burden of such changes, and be more appealing in the shorter term. (Author/publisher)
