Abstract

The pervious asphalt wearing courses used for reducing traffic noise up till now are capable of reducing rolling noise by some 3dB. However, low frequency motor noises, predominant in slow- moving urban traffic or during acceleration, cannot be absorbed by these single- layer wearing courses. A road suitable for practical use has been developed at the University of Karlsruhe with a 45 cm thick layer construction to reduce traffic noise.
