Abstract

IMT-2000, which is expected to be the next generation cellular telecommunication system, will start its first services in Japan in the spring of 2001, forerunning the world. The world of IMT-2000 will offer various characteristic features such as remarkably accelerated data transmission speed in comparison to current cellular telecommunication systems, improved quality of calls, and international roaming services. It is easy to imagine that the introduction of IMT-2000 will facilitate the changeover of the current cellular phone systems. Moreover, it will enable new services and applications, which are unattainable under current cellular environments, even applying the wire-line infrastructure. One typical indication would be applications to car multimedia. Considering the changes in car multimedia environments, while basing upon the approaches to IMT-2000 in Japan as well as the available technologies and services to be achieved by IMT-2000, this report is to investigate and identify the fusion of the next generation cellular telecommunication with car multimedia.
