Abstract

Today, the evolution of telematic systems applied to transport is rapidly changing. Technological innovations are very fast and different technologies can be combined to outline several scenarios while alternative technologies can be used for the same type of application. In this situation it is very difficult to define an appropriate reference system that encompasses all the solutions able to exploit the existing technological opportunities with an open architecture compatible with the innovative components. In the commercial transport sector, in particular, there is a great fragmentation in fleet management and logistic solutions adopted and these systems are very expensive. Trucking enterprises are searching for a flexible and modular system that allows investment re-use in function evolution. A description of features, requirements, problems, architectures and services related to the telematic systems is reported with a specific reference to a commercial vehicle point of view. In particular the IVECO approach is presented through a demonstrator vehicle description with telematic and multimedia contents.
