Abstract
A field trial concerning telematics applications in the transport of dangerous goods by road is presented. From a transporter's point of view, emergency response systems are an addition to fleet management systems. For the emergency this is exactly the opposite. To the emergency services the major features of an emergency system are: rapid incident reporting and availability of reliable information about the position and direction of the vehicle, and the nature of the cargo.
