Abstract

This paper discusses some of the implications for ITS with particular attention to architecture and standards. The development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) has been underway for several years. During that time there have been dramatic changes in telecommunications, especially wireless and mobile terminal devices, and in the capacity of information processing devices and networks. The start of what is predicted to be the unprecedented growth has been seen in vehicle-based systems that form part-of or integrate-with classical ITS - the field of telematics.
