Abstract

Providers of telematics and transportation planners have suggested that investments in telecommunications can offset some of the demand for travel and thereby attain energy conservation, reductions in congestion and traffic related pollution. Three main trip purposes are suggested for substitution: commuting, shopping trips and business travel. This paper focuses on the first two types.
