Abstract

The research programme PROMETHEUS is an EUREKA project and is currently the biggest and most ambitious in terms of duration, cost and goals. It has been promoted by the most important Automobile Companies with the aim of developing concepts and solutions to make road traffic in Europe safer, more efficient, more economical and convenient, and with less pollution. The approach is based on the consideration that vehicles have no longer to be seen as isolated entities but as parts of an integrated system in which different components cooperate to realize the aforestated goals.
