Abstract
The study examines five factors critical to success of a bikeway system. (1) The history and rebirth of bicycling in the USA is discussed. (2) Accident data are examined to determining how bikeways can be designed in order to provide greatest safety. (3) Design aspects of bikeways are discussed. (4) Data from the Bike Survey (see B 6056) are examined as they describe Tempe's bicycle riding population and their attitudes. (5) Possible finding for bikeway program are catalogued.
