Abstract

The practice of fuel economy and preventing air pollution in the U.S.S.R. is discussed. Much attention is paid to standardization of fuel consumption rate. To reduce fuel consumption various modes of transport are used, liquid fuel is substituted by gas, the diesel engine is in wide use. In cities public transport is mostly being used to reduce fuel consumption. Much space in the press is given to the methods of reducing the emission of pollutants.
