Abstract

In developing countries, little effort has been made to tackle the traffic safety problems and there are still many inadequacies in each of the main components (i.e., the road user, the vehicle and the road environment) which are involved in road accidents. This paper focusses on how traffic engineering measures can be used to improve traffic safety and draws upon the author's direct experience on a number of safety related projects in developing countries.
