Abstract

The efficiency of driver rescue on motorways in the event of an accident depends on the processing of information collected in real time. A model is proposed, using speed and hourly volumes, for forecasting rapid variations in traffic flow on long stretches of road. The model was used in studies of traffic flow fluctuations in the Netherlands and Italy.
