Abstract

This paper outlines the needs of drivers: fuel, catering facilities, toilet /washing accommodation, public telephone, repair and breakdown facilities, sleeping accommodation, and special parking areas and security parking areas for commercial drivers. The author examines: (1) the role of the central and local government in providing these services, and (2) the role of the motoring organizations in providing the driver with information and services before and during the journey.
